Our Program
The Miami Nutrition and Weight Loss Center offers a unique program for adolescents who are overweight, as well as those who have disordered eating patterns. The center, in association with leading physicians, registered dietitians, exercise scientists and psychologists recognize that in adolescence a child will go through many sensitive issues and times. We also specialize in creating individualized programs right for your needs and do not follow a "cookie-cutter" format for treatment.
Our program includes medical clearance either by your physician or ours, individual sessions with the registered dietitian and lifestyle management classes. The center has additional medical care and counseling for the family or individual as needed.
We conveniently have scheduled the adolescent weight loss program to follow a quarterly school schedule. This means that depending upon which program is correct for you, sessions may range from one month to twelve weeks, with weekly visits organized around your school schedule.
Who can Enroll?
Adolescents between the ages of 11 and 17 are eligible. If you or your child does not meet this age criteria, speak to the director in order to clarify how we can help you. We set realistic goals with everyday applicability with situational counseling and development, enabling the client to grow closer to their goals.
Our Methods
Adolescent obesity is a complex disease. To treat both adolescent and adult weight problems a multidisciplinary approach is needed. We utilize specialists from medicine, nutrition, endocrinology, gastroenterology, cardiology, exercise physiology, psychology and nursing. Each client will have the appropriate sessions with designated treatment leaders learning healthy eating habits and high self-esteem techniques. After taking part in our program, your child will feel empowered over his/her weight and have a high self-esteem. We teach life long habits and techniques to always keep your weight in check.
